A secure digital card is a development on the MMC card and is a little broader (32 x 24 x 2.1 mm). Hence, an MMC card can fit into an SD card slot. An SD card is a favorable choice for MP3 players and digital cameras because it is equipped with a slide controlled write protection tab. In theory, it can manage speeds up to 20 MB/s. An SDHC (SD High Capacity) card, which is subtype of the SD card and can store a maximum of 32 GB and 64GB, is under development. The two common subtypes of SD cards are mini SD and micro SD, which are best for compact form factor devices such as mobile phones and MP3 players.
Advantage of Secure Digital (SD) card - Small and Compact, affordable price tag.
Disadvantage of Secure Digital (SD) card - Too slow for professional photographers
